Don't panic, there are steps you can take to start the restoration process:

  • First, it's important to document the damage thoroughly. Our team has created a Cemetery Vandalism Damage Report form for you to complete, which includes a detailed list of affected gravestones and multiple photos of each.

  • You may want to consider enlisting the services of a conservator to prepare a formal damage assessment, which will be critical for future conservation efforts.

  • While accepting help from well-meaning community members or local monument companies may be tempting, we caution against it. Inexperienced individuals may unintentionally cause further damage to the gravestones with inappropriate materials or methods. Instead, we suggest redirecting volunteer efforts towards other areas of the cemetery, such as trash removal, raking, removal of vines, and dead branch cleanup.
